About PhotoWirral
PhotoWirral is a website that
was thought up in early 2005 by myself, Matt
Cullum, a young amateur photographer. It was originally aimed as
a website to showcase the Wirral Peninsula in photographs, but at the
time the format and basis of the website was undecided.
In 2006, I was in two minds about how to develop the site. My initial
idea when I began the project was to travel around the Wirral Peninsula,
visiting many different area's and taking photographs, then putting them
online via this website. However, I then began contemplating with the
idea of developing the site into an interactive user forum and photo
gallery.
After months of deliberation, I decided to to stick with the first idea.
My reasoning for this was because it would have been to hard and time
consuming to develop such a site, pre-made scripts were very
restrictive, there are already many established interactive photo
websites on the internet, and most of all because I wanted the website
to showcase my own work rather then just becoming another photo sharing
website.
The basis of this website design was coded in mid-2005 not long after
the initial idea was planned, however due to a busy life during 2006 and
various other delay's, as well as not being entirely sure what I wanted
the project to become, there was very little development in the website
from mid-2005 until May 2007. During this time however, I did regularly
travel the Wirral taking photographs whenever I could, in the hope that
I could one day turn my idea into reality.
PhotoWirral is therefore merely a website which showcases photographs
taken by myself, over a period of years and will be an ongoing project,
at least for many years to come.
